Throwing Skills Course - Sunday 15th September 2024
Throwing Skills Course - Sunday 15th September 2024
This is a-day course designed to teach and enhance throwing skills on the pottery wheel. It is suitable for individuals who already possess some experience on the wheel and have access to a pottery wheel to continue their practice after the course. Throughout the session, I will guide you on how to effectively work with the clay, enabling you to throw thinner and taller pieces with greater ease. The class size is small to ensure that each participant receives ample attention and assistance on their own specific needs and areas for improvement. If there is a particular shape or skill that you would like to cover during the course, please let me know in advance via email. I am happy to answer any questions you have about glazing, firing, and studio maintenance throughout the day, too. This is a throwing only course; you can select 3 pieces to keep, which I will turn and glaze for you. They will be ready for collection—or shipped at an additional cost—approximately 3 to 4 weeks later.
Classes are from 10am to 4pm and include a light lunch for participants. Class size 4 people.
I will provide tools, a good quality clay and aprons. Wear something that enables you to sit around the pottery wheel comfortably and roll your sleeves up to your elbows. A layer that keeps your body warm and arms free is good to have.
Due to the small class size (4) the class may not go ahead if there are not enough participants.
No refunds can be given if you cancel with less than 10 days notice. After 10 days you can transfer your space to someone else of an equal level of experience if you wish.
If I need to cancel a class, due to not having enough participants, you will get 5 days notice. Please make sure your accommodation (if required) allows full refunds for cancellations within that window. If I am unable to attend l a class due to illness or other emergency, I will notify you as soon as possible and/or try my best to find a replacement teacher.
Please be aware that wheel throwing for a full day can be a physically intense and tiring experience, especially if you suffer from any back issues, but you are free to move about, grab a cup of tea and wander around the garden at any stage.
The course price does not include postage of the ceramics after the glaze firing (ususally no more than €13).
